How to Write Your First Blog Post: That's Shareable AF

1.     Contribute original thought to the world

Don’t Google “How to write your first blog.” Why? Because the number one purpose of your blog should be to contribute something to the world. The moment you add to the clutter you are only doing yourself or your business a disservice. Doing what everyone else is doing equals being a part of the problem, don’t do that…

“Okay, then what do I write about?”

2.     Write about something that matters…

…not just to you but to your current audience and your prospective audience. If you don’t know how to answer this question then you have a bit of research to do before you start your blog.

3.     Find your social intersection

I start with finding the social intersection where what people like about your brand meets with what people are talking about online in order to maximize relevance on your marketing and PR goals. I stick to five PR pillars that make something newsworthy: (i)Timing, (ii)Significance, (iii) Proximity, (iv) Prominence, and (v) Human Interest

4.     Keywords matter, but content matters more

Yes, we see people fail as human beings every day, especially on the little things. However, just because someone can’t drive, doesn’t mean they can’t smell our #creative #graphic #design drool over the #best keywords in #Denver….(ahem) #socialvine #unagency #runstheworld

-Google searched nobody…ever

5.     Write like a human being

If this isn’t self-explanatory than you shouldn’t blog, pay someone else to do it.

6.     Your image is everything

You may not be a graphic designer like me, but that’s no excuse to have a lame picture. My number one recommendation for creative image population with typography art is Word Swag, for a whopping $4.99, you can be a wizard too. It’s available for iOS and Android. My mother-in-law can use it, you can too.

7.     Have sensible expectations

Let’s be real, only your friend, parents/children or spouse will read your first blog, so just try and write something that’s not too embarrassing. You’ll be fine. Let’s call 30 views a success, even if 25 are your own.
